Katherine Blauvelt is Assistant Commissioner of the Division of Energy Resources at the Minnesota Department of Commerce. She joined the Commerce Department in 2019 and provides leadership on policy development and advocacy, manages large stakeholder and interagency initiatives and supervises the Energy Environmental Review and Analysis, Energy Assistance and Telecommunications units.

Prior to joining the Commerce Department, Katherine has worked on energy and climate issues in a variety of capacities, and has a strong background in working with diverse stakeholders, providing collaborative solutions. She worked for U.S. Senator Al Franken overseeing outreach for the state office, the Minnesota Budget Project and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). A graduate of Oberlin College and the University of Michigan’s Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, she is a 2001 Truman Scholar. Katherine grew up in St. Cloud, and lives in Minneapolis with her husband and daughter.
